Tag Heuer made a Super Mario themed smartwatch because why not

Your favorite video game plumber will soon be available on the Wear OS watch. Tag Heuer today announced that it is partnering with Nintendo to create Super Mario the connected smartwatch edition, featuring “brave iconic heroes” in a variety of watch faces and animations. It will be available on July 15 for $ 2,150, which is in line with how much the Connected series has cost in the past. One of the highlights here is the use of Mario’s company to encourage its wearers to be active and rewarding as they move.

According to Tag Heuer, “Mario’s optimistic and active personality will encourage wearers of this smartwatch to enjoy moving as well.” But it’s not just inspired by just looking at his face on your wrist. The watch’s dial will be “more alive and more animated when the wearer is active.” There is also a “gamification reward system” in play. Mario will greet you every morning, and as you move, you’ll get different animations as you reach 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of your move targets. This animation features items that are no strangers to the Mario universe, such as Super Mushrooms, Pipes, Super Stars and Goal Pillars. The company says that the idea was inspired by the notion of “easter eggs”, so I think you should treat this animation that way.

Even when you’re inactive, the interface of the Super Mario Tag Heuer Connected edition will remind you of his character. You can choose from four new watch options, and they don’t just offer a red-blue theme. The Timing Board, for example, uses “retro elements from the 1985 version of Super Mario Bros. with Mario, all in pixels.” One of its designs features a Mario hat, while the other takes elements of the game and incorporates them into a rotating animation.

In addition to the on -screen graphics, the watch itself has a Super Mario touch. The push button, crown logo and approval bezel are now present in Super Mario red color, and you’ll find symbols engraved on the bezel that reflect in -game objects that you’ll see as you reach your move target as well. The letter M is engraved on the buckle strap and crown, while the words “TAG Heuer x Super Mario Limited Edition” are also engraved on the back of the watch. The company also offers two interchangeable straps for the new watch: a black leather strap on red rubber and a “sporty alternative in matching red perforated rubber,” as well as a travel holster – what’s more – a red Super Mario.

The hardware touch is very important because while Mario’s face and skin will be available first on this limited edition of the Connected watch, Tag Heuer says that “it’s also considering making it available on other editions of the TAG Heuer Connected at a later stage.”

Since this is a Wear OS device (Tag Heuer has yet to respond to Engadget’s inquiries about whether this is an existing OS or if it will be updated to a version co -engineered by Samsung and Google), the other watch functionality will feel familiar. You can access Google Assistant, get calendar and weather updates, and track Fit progress on the watch. It will also offer its own Sports, Golf, and Health apps for better fitness tools.

The Super Mario Connected version has a 45mm face and weighs 86 grams (0.18 pounds) with a rubber strap. It’s waterproof up to 5ATM, and the Tag Heuer promises its 430mAh battery can last a full day.

Tag Heuer just made 2,000 of these watches, which will be available in select boutiques and on its website in some provinces, starting July 15, 2021. Priced at $ 2,150, the special edition is priced higher than its non -Mario counterpart, which starts at $ 1,800, but if you’re a hardcore fan, you’re probably sure to cash out.
