AMD Readies Entry Level Ryzen 5 4500, Ryzen 3 4100 & Athlon Gold 4100GE CPU Based on Zen 2 Cores

AMD appears to be preparing some new entry-level Ryzen & Athlon CPUs that will be based on the Zen 2 core architecture. These processors are found in a USB-IF database and include three new SKUs that are part of the Ryzen / Athlon 4000 family intended for desktop platforms (via Komachi).

According to the list, there are three new Zen 2 Desktop SKUs mentioned, the AMD Ryzen 5 4500, Ryzen 3 4100, and Athlon Gold 4100GE. Based on their naming conventions, we were able to elaborate on some of the specs but what is important is that this is still part of the older 4000 series lineup & which has been completely replaced by 5000 series SKUs. There are currently no entry level Zen 3 SKUs in the 5000 line so this chip can serve as a refresher for 3000 Zen 2 based SKUs and offers few specs.

Starting with the AMD Ryzen 5 4500, the chip will replace the Ryzen 5 3500 and offer 6 cores, 6 threads, and cache of up to 19 MB. The Ryzen 5 3500 clock is available on a 3.6 GHz base and a 4.10 GHz upgrade so you can definitely expect the Ryzen 5 4500 to offer a higher clock than that. This chip will retain the 65W TDP design. The Ryzen 3 4100 will replace the Ryzen 3 3100 & offer 4 cores and 8 threads along with 18 MB of cache. The Ryzen 3 3100 offers a base clock speed of 3.60 GHz and a boost of 3.90 GHz so expect the SKU 4100 to feature a clock higher than that. The TDP will also be set at 65W.

The AMD Athlon Gold 4100GE will be the spiritual successor to the Athlon Gold 3150GE and comes with 4 cores, 4 threads, and 6 MB cache. The chip, which is a variant of the ‘GE’, will support the Vega integrated GPU (3 CU) and clock up to 4.0 GHz. The ‘GE’ variant will also feature a 35W TDP so we can expect higher clocks on non -GE SKUs.

CPU name Core / Thread Base Clock Increase the Clock Cache (L2 + L3) TDP iGPU Price
Ryzen 5 4500 6/6 TBA TBA 19 MB 65W N / A TBA
Ryzen 3 4100 4/8 TBA TBA 18 MB 65W N / A TBA
Athlon Gold 4100GE 4/4 TBA TBA 6 MB 35W Vega 3 (192 Terraces) TBA

Now there is no word on the price of the two parts. The AMD Ryzen 5 4500 and Ryzen 3 4100 will definitely hit a retail price below $ 150 US while the Gold Athlon should hit a retail price below $ 100 US but the more important question is whether this chip will enter the retail segment at all. It seems that this Zen 2 refresh is aimed at the OEM segment rather than the DIY market but we have only seen certain OEM chips sold in the DIY segment by certain Asia Pacific retailers, so let’s wait and see when these chips are actually available.
