Apple is believed to be working on a completely new iPad mini Pro version, according to a recent report.
According to BloombergMark Gurman and Debby Wu, Apple plans to launch a minipad model with a narrower screen bezel, with the company also testing a design that eliminates the Home button.
Still, it seems that this is more of a Pro mini -style redesign, being a completely new type of device. Separately, a miniPad with a design similar to the current fifth -generation model, retaining the Lightning port and Touch ID Home Button, is also rumored to be launched this year. While it’s not yet clear where these two devices will be placed in the iPad lineup or even if both will eventually be released, it seems that there are two types of iPad mini that are being developed.
The Mini Pro “Pro” will be distinguished by design and features such as USB-C. Leaker Jon Prosser claims to have looked at schemas, CAD files, and actual photos from the next -generation miniP and made renders to reflect the new design shown, showing the square sides and reduction bezel that appeared on the iPad Pro but have since spread to the iPhone 12, iPad Air , and iMac.
Prosser says that the new iPad mini will feature a slimmer bezel around the display and without a home button, with Touch ID moved to a power button like theiPad Air. He did not explain the display dimensions of the new iPad mini, but claimed it will have dimensions of 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm.
Last year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple planned to launch a miniPad with a larger display in the 8.5 to 9-inch region. Other rumors suggest that the device will feature an 8.7 -inch display, which is mounted on a chassis that is wider and shorter than the existing iPad mini 5.
In terms of features, Prosser says that theiPad mini will switch from a Lightning connector to USB-C, has “dramatically improved” speakers, an A14 chip, support for 5G connectivity, and compatibility with the new, smaller Apple Pencil IPad is closer than ever to the PiPad Pro. Indeed, this is the clear position of this device in the lineup of iPad referred to as “iPad mini Pro” in some reports.
Kuo now expects the new iPad mini model to be launched in the second half of 2021. Prosser and various other reports also claim that the new thatiPad mini will arrive later this year, available in three colors: black, silver, and gold.
